The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason This classic is a must read. It has positively influenced the lives of millions. Many people consider it the most important book they have ever read. It changed my life. It is unusual in the sense that it reads as a translation of an ancient text giving the story somewhat biblical character. The idea is that the knowledge contained in the story is timeless. The book teaches how to put yourself on the road to riches: rich in the wealth sense, but also how to achieve a rich life. No matter what your income level, it will help you stop worrying about money. You'll have a balanced understanding of the proper role of money in our lives. It teaches you how to get out of debt, to save and invest, to avoid greed, and to be charitable.

The Wealthy Barber, Updated 3rd Edition by David Chilton This book owes alot to The Richest Man In Babylon. To get across similar financial planning concepts, Chilton however tells a more up to date story not set in ancient times. His fictional teacher is a barber. Do you know any wealthy barbers? Chilton's message is that ordinary folk, even a barber, can achieve wealth through sound financial planning techniques. His story explains all the other factors at play in wealth accumulation besides earned income. This is an excellent self-help book to give as a gift to a high school student, a young graduate, or someone entering the workforce. I read it and The Richest Man In Babylon just after starting my first real job after university. From them I learned how to "get ahead of the eight ball" and start my financial life off on the right foot. I've experienced first hand that the lessons both books teach really work ( without sacrifice ).

Acres of Diamonds by Russell H. Conwell Please pardon the pun but this little book is a real gem! At only 63 pages it is a quick read and is inexpensive enough to buy copies for all your friends. Much more valuable than its price suggests. It is a inspirational story about opening your eyes to the good things around us that so often go unnoticed. So many of us are plagued with always thinking the "grass is greener" someplace else. This book can help redirect our attention to opportunities on our own doorsteps.

The Greatest Salesman In The World by Og Mandino This is more than a motivational book. Its story packs an incredible amount of wisdom that can't help but enrich the life of the reader. Og Mandino is a masterful story teller. He succeeded at writing stories that were capable of altering the lives of his readers. I think this story is one of his best. Like Clason's The Richest Man in Babylon, this book relates the "timeless" knowledge a person needs if they are to achieve their dreams and leave this earth having made a difference.

Endless Referrals : Network Your Everyday Contacts into Sales by Bob Burg The Art of Speed-Reading People : Harness the Power of Personality Type and Create What You Want in Business and in Life by Paul D. Tieger, Barbara Barron-Tieger (Contributor) I remember that first real job I spoke about above. I suffered alot of stress because I lacked confidence and skills in communicating with people. Outwardly I'm sure I seemed fine to my colleagues and employer but I was really struggling at times . If I had to make a phone call I'd write out a detailed script of what I planned to say. I'd then fumble through it on the phone whilst my heartbeat raced out of control. This would happen at least a couple of times every day! What I really needed were great self-help books like these. I did managed to improve my skills but it took years of working at it. These self-help books can help you dramatically and quickly improve your "people skills". They aren't just for folks in sales jobs. They'll help you socially and in whatever career you have. The skills can even help you get a date for Saturday night if that's what you want! - Seriously.
