I think it's a pretty good domain name because it gives us hope that it might just be possible to live on just $5 a day! It would be a great name for a site that tries to help people live a non-consumer, frugal lifestyle. You know - a "use your children's hair to darn the holes in their socks" - kind of page. Seriously we should all try to live a more frugal lifestyle - here's my favorite book on the subject: Voluntary Simplicity - the book that started a movement. It is a great guide to reassessing your priorities and the realization that you can easily live a more frugal lifestyle - a one that is most likely more satisfying than the one you now have. Really.

What do you think about using live-on-5-bucks-a-day.com as the domain name for a site that tells you how to retire to a third-world country? "You'll live like a King - but be sure to pack a good medical kit. The nearest dirt-floor clinic is a three-day walk".

Perhaps a better idea for the $5 domain name would be to create a entertainment site that tells you how to be a "virtual hobo" hitching rides from node to node on the information highway. Doing something like this was one of my original "brainfarts" back when I first got on the internet in 1995. Way back then ( it really seems like a long time ago ) there was alot of talk about "micropayment" systems which would have seen internet users having to pay at least a few pennies for each page they visit. The more you surf - the more you pay. Anyways, had micropayments become more of a reality it might have been possible to beg for change online. I could have become an internet beggar and made mom proud. My idea was to do it in as entertaining a manner as possible giving entertainment value in exchange for a small "donation". You're welcome to the idea if you think you can get somewhere with it. Make your mom proud.

If you've found any of these website ideas "interesting" be sure to check out my more detailed idea pages here at DesignStop.Com. Maybe you'll find a great idea you'll want to make your very own. And with regards to choosing domain names I hope you'll check out my advice and idea page about domain names. They won't cost you anything and are therefore suited to your new frugal lifestyle.
